Cultural Bias

Pro-Israel
IU professes that it values perspectives and students from different cultures and origins. However, it’s commitment to normalizing Israel at all cost show its true values.
Every year, IU hosts ‘Israelpalooza’, a celebration of Israeli culture that white-washes its ongoing occupation.
Different groups on campus have also invited IDF soldiers known to have committed war crimes in Gaza to events on campus, without any scrutiny from IU.
Anti-Muslim
At the same time, IU marginalizes its Arab and Muslim students on campus. In 2024, IU was designated a hostile campus for Muslim students, and IU has not acknowledged or taken any action to address the problem. IU has turned a blind eye to harassment of Muslim students and organizers, sometimes by other IU students who committed crimes in the IDF. Furthermore, IU does not have any official Arab or Muslim cultural centers, despite demands made by IUDC and others.
IU administration also puts extra scrutiny on Islamic-oriented organizations.
- In March of 2026, IU closed its Muslim Philanthropy Institute and placed its director on administrative leave.
- IU refuses to cooperate with the Islamic Center of Bloomington and facilitate its planned expansion.
These actions sum to a preference for Israel and a bias against Arab and Muslim presence in student life on campus. IUDC firmly rejects IU’s Islamophobic administration and calls on the community to take Islamophobia as seriously as all other forms of discrimination.
