🇵🇸 IU Disorientation Guide 2026-2027
Welcome to a new year at Indiana University
Welcome to Indiana University! As you prepare for college life as a new Hoosier, there is so much information thrown at you about IU. Your New Student Orientation might guide you through how to register for classes, how to pay your bursar bill, or how to ride the campus busses, but this is not the full story of life as a student here. What they likely didn’t tell you about are the staff layoffs, the erosion of tenure for faculty, and the snipers pointed at students. The IUDC New Student Disorientation Guide is here to disorient you from the story IU wants you to believe. This guide will tell you the truth about these social issues affecting the IU community, the ways students, faculty, and workers have tried to create lasting change for the better, and the work there is still to be done.
By becoming a student at IU, you inherit the power and responsibility of being a part of its community. While it’s true that administrators and donors wield wealth and influence, IU is nothing without its people. When the people of IU understand our power, we can build an institution that reflects our true values, one that no longer has blood on its hands for its participation in violence, oppression, and corruption. We invite you to take power with us and share the struggle.
Indiana University is complicit in the occupation, apartheid, and genocide occurring in Palestine. Through investments, research partnerships, and the policing of free speech, IU provides material and ideological support for Israel’s political violence in Gaza, the West Bank, and the entire region.
IUDC has compiled a complete guide to IU’s involvement in occupation and apartheid. Read it here.

Our 2026-2027 Campaign
IU must not invest in companies and countries that violate human rights.
IUDC calls on the university to meet three simple demands
Divest
Indiana University Foundation (IUF) runs a large investment fund (or endowment) worth over $3.5 billion in 2024. We call on the IUF to add a clause to the investment policy banning the fund from profiting off of violators of human rights and international law.
Demilitarize
Indiana University solicits and builds partnerships with the Military Industrial Complex, including NSWC Crane (a location that warehoused 2,000lb bombs used to massacre civilians in Gaza). We call on IU to wind those partnerships down and offer students educational opportunities that don’t injure and maim others.
Democratize
For too long, IU has been dominated by wealthy administrators and an out of touch Board of Trustees. These people have trampled academic freedom, brutalized their students with police, and harassed their own community for speaking out against genocide. IU must become a campus that is governed by the people who’s learning and labor make it run.

📢 What is IUDC?
The Indiana University Divestment Coalition is a group of students, faculty, staff, and community members who organize against IU’s support for Israel and human rights abuses. We organize public outreach, advocacy campaigns, educational events, and more aimed at fulfilling the true mission of the university: to create a democratic and free society.
